Many teams only open their financial model before a fundraise. Those models are built for storytelling: pretty curves, optimistic assumptions, detached from operations. A useful model is a decision tool — it answers "what happens if".

## Three traits of a decision-grade model

- **Driver-based:** revenue isn't a guessed number but channels × conversion × ticket size
- **Rolling:** calibrated monthly against actuals, always looking 12–18 months ahead
- **Scenario-ready:** optimistic / base / conservative switchable at will, runway visible at a glance

The model starts paying for itself the day it can answer "what if we cut marketing 20%" live in a leadership meeting.
