Why strategy dies in the last mile of execution

Most failed strategies lose at the step from "consensus" to "schedule". The strategy doc states a direction but never answers: who owns it, what measures it, how often it's checked.

The minimum execution loop

  • Every strategic theme has one owner with the authority to say no
  • Verifiable milestones, not "ongoing progress" vagueness
  • A fixed review cadence — we prefer biweekly over quarterly
Strategies aren't overthrown; they drown in the day-to-day.

If a quarter passes and a strategic theme never comes up in the weekly meeting, it's already dead — just not yet announced.
