Background
Lakestone Capital (fictional) manages several growth-stage funds. Every portfolio company reported on its own terms, and the platform team needed six weeks to assemble a portfolio view — by which time the window had passed.
What we did
- Defined a minimal but consistent KPI vocabulary across the portfolio (growth, retention, cash, efficiency)
- Built a lightweight collection and review process: one submission at the start of each month, anomalies flagged automatically
- Designed an IC-facing portfolio dashboard with escalation rules
Result
Monthly visibility went from 45 days to 7 (demo data), and post-investment reviews for two funds turned from fire-fighting into forward planning.
